Boys’ hockey: Northland Pines 7, Rhinelander 2
Rhinelander gave up four third-period goals in a third straight game on Thursday night as Northland Pines pulled away to a 7-2 victory in Great Northern Conference play at the Rhinelander Ice Arena.
Josh Graves scored four times for Pines, including three times in the third period. Joey Belanger scored both of Rhinelander’s goals. The teams were tied 1-1 after a period and Pines lead 3-2 after two.
The Hodags lost despite outshooting Northland Pines 32-22. Tyler Kimmerling made 15 saves in defeat.
Rhinelander (2-5-0, 0-3-0-0 Great Northern) travel to Oshkosh on Saturday.
Boys’ swimming: Rhinelander 104, Antigo 49
The Hodag boys’ swim team won all 11 events on Thursday as it moved to 4-0 in the Great Northern Conference with a 104-49 victory over Antigo at the Heck Family Community Pool.
Shawn Denis and Samson Shinners were both four-event winners for Rhinelander. Denis won the 100 breaststroke as was on all three winning relays. Shinners took the 200 freestyle, the 100 freestyle and was on the winning 200 and 400 freestyle relays.
Dolan O’Malley won the 200 individual medley and the 100 backstroke, Brock Arrowood claimed the 100 butterfly, Mathias Fugle won the 50 freestyle and Zacha King took the 500 freestyle.
Rhinelander is idle until Jan. 4, when it will host Medford and Shawano/Seymour in a GNC double dual.
Wrestling: Mosinee 48, Rhinelander 30; Medford 71, Rhinelander 9
The RHS wrestling team dropped both ends of a GNC quadrangular on Thursday, falling to Mosinee 48-30 and Medford 71-9 in Medford.
Owen Kurtz (215) and Reid Schultz (285) won both of their matches for Rhinelander. Kurtz recorded a pair of pins while Schultz had a pin against Mosinee and a decision against Medford.
Robert Schramke (138), Aiden Ostermann (152) and Logan Schwinger (175) picked up wins against Mosinee.
Rhinelander (0-2, 0-2 Great Northern) travels to Amherst for a quadrangular meet on Friday.
