RHS Sports recap: Monday, Dec. 11

Boys’ basketball: Rhinelander 55, Wittenberg-Birnamwood 47

Sophomore Evan Shoeder scored his only points of the game — a pair of backdoor layups in the final two minutes — to help Rhinelander fend off Wittenberg-Birnamwood 55-47 Monday night in a non-conference road test.

A lead that was as large as 12 for the Hodags in the second half had shrunk to two after six straight empty possessions before Shoeder scored off a couple of assists by Truman Lamers. Lamers led three Hodags in double digits with 16 points. James Heck had 11 and Will Gretzinger chipped in 10.

Jett Rogowski had 27 to pace the Chargers, who led 22-21 at halftime before Rhinelander took control with a 15-2 run early in the second half.

The Hodags (4-1, 2-0 Great Northern) travel to Tomahawk on Friday.
