Hearing set for proposed Cassian rehab center
The Oneida County board’s planning and development committee will conduct a public hearing Dec. 28 on a conditional use permit (CUP) application submitted by the Great Lakes Inter-Tribal Council, Inc. (GLITC).
The application is for construction of a 36-bed adolescent recovery and wellness center (ARWC) on property GLITC purchased on North Pine Square Road in the town of Cassian.
GLITC purchased a total of 288 acres in Cassian for the project. Chief executive officer Bryan Bainbridge told the town’s planning commission at its Nov. 20 meeting a large portion of that acreage would be used as a “buffer” between the ARWC and nearby private property.
The town board in September approved a resolution expressing opposition to construction of the facility in Cassian, citing the burden on infrastructure and what it alleges would be the negative effect on property values as well as public safety.
The public hearing is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 28 at 4 p.m. at the Woodruff community center.
