Dennis James Mikkelson

Dennis James Mikkelson, 60, of the Town of Pine Lake, passed away at his home with his family at his side and under the care of Compassus at Home Hospice.

Dennis was born in Rhinelander on October 4, 1963, to LeRoy and Nancy (Kotz) Mikkelson. He was raised in Rhinelander and attended Rhinelander schools. Dennis proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Reserve. He was employed at Marplex, Twist Drill, until its closing. He then drove semi-truck for various Wisconsin-based companies. His final career was being employed at Northstar Steel, with his son, James, and friends, working there until November 3, 2023. Dennis was united in marriage to Karleen Kudick in November 1986, they later divorced in 2003. He met the love of his life, Donna Harmon, while participating in one of his favorite pastimes, shooting pool. They were married on July 5, 2014, in their backyard, in Rhinelander.

Dennis enjoyed shooting pool and was a member of a mixed couples and men’s pool league, shooting for Sammy Jr’s. He also enjoyed four wheeling, camping, fishing, tinkering, and hunting.

He will be dearly missed by his loving wife, Donna, two sons, Dennis R. (Sarah) Mikkelson, of Rhinelander, James Mikkelson of Rhinelander, one grandson, David Houg, and one granddaughter, Emersyn Mikkelson, two stepsons, Andrew Jordan of Rhinelander, and Jesse Bilder, of Rhinelander, one step-granddaughter, Skye Jordan, siblings, Julie (Mikkelson) Heim of Rhinelander, Laura Mikkelson of Clearwater, Florida, Ryan (Ginger) Iwen of Rhinelander, stepfather, Roger (Jody) Iwen of Gleason, and their daughter, Jennifer Thorsen of Minnesota. Also surviving are nieces, nephews and other relatives and many friends.

Dennis is preceded in death by his parents, LeRoy Mikkelson and Nancy Roehling, one brother, John Mikkelson, and one sister, Faythe Bixby.

A Celebration of Life for Dennis will be held in the summer of 2024.
