Youth Basketball

The Rhinelander Basketball Association hosted a Great Northwest Basketball League seventh- and eighth-grade girls’ basketball tournament at Rhinelander High School and James Williams Middle School Saturday, Dec. 2. 

The RBA eighth-graders took second in a five-team pool, going 3-1 on the day. The Hodags defeated Merrill (29-12), Tomahawk (34-21) and Wittenberg-Birnamwood (41-35) before dropping the finale to Lakeland (28-25). The Hodag seventh-graders won all three of their games to take first in a five-team pool. Rhinelander knocked off Medford (34-25), Mosinee Purple (32-29) and Prentice (34-19).

JV Hoops

The Rhinelander High School boys’ and girls’ basketball teams both defeated Antigo in junior varsity play at the Jim Miazga Community Gymnasium Friday, Dec. 1.

Little Hodags perform

The Rhinelander Basketball Association’s Little Hodags (grader 2-6) and Little Dribblers (grades 4K-1) programs performed at halftime of both games of a varsity girls’ and boys’ basketball doubleheader against Antigo at the Jim Miazga Community Gymnasium Friday, Dec. 1. The programs meet during the month of October and focused on introducing the game of basketball and developing the basic fundamentals such as ball handling, dribbling, passing and shooting through drills and fun games. Hodag basketball coaches Derek Lemmens and Ryan Clark led the programs with assistance from current Hodag basketball players and volunteer assistants.
