RHS Sports recap: Friday, Dec. 1


Boys’ basketball: Rhinelander 56, Antigo 34


The Rhinelander High School boys’ basketball team led nearly wire-to-wire on Friday in a 56-34 win over Antigo at the Jim Mizaga Community Gymnasium.


The Hodags took the lead for good on 15-3 run early in the first half and never looked back. Rhinelander was up 26-16 at the break and stretched the lead to as many as 23 in the second.


Will Gretzinger paced the Hodags with 19 while Truman Lamers added 11. Jake Verhasselt led Antigo with 9 as the Robins were held to a season-low 34 points on 12 of 38 shooting.


Rhinelander (2-0, 1-0 Great Northern) hosts Wausau East on Tuesday.


Girls’ basketball: Rhinelander 66, Antigo 45


The Rhinelander High School girls’ basketball team used a 25-2 run midway through the first half to power past Antigo 66-45 Friday night at the Jim Miazga Community Gymnasium.


After Antigo took its only lead of the night, up 13-11, the Hodags pulled away and eventually lead 38-22 at halftime.


Aubryn Clark paced three Hodags in double digits with 24 points. Lily Treder had 15 and Leah Jamison had 14. Jenna Czerneski led Antigo with 15.


Rhinelander (4-2, 2-0 Great Northern) hosts Northland Pines this coming Friday.
