RHS Sports recap: Thursday, Nov. 30
Boys’ hockey: Tomahawk 11, Rhinelander 4
Joey Belanger scored three times and added an assist, but the RHS boys’ hockey team couldn’t keep up with Tomahawk in an 11-4 loss Thursday in the Great Northern Conference opener at SARA Park.
Belanger scored twice, including on a penalty shot, to tie the game at 2 midway through the first period, but Tomahawk scored late in the period to take a 3-2 lead and then tacked on four goals each in the second and third periods.
Dalton Fritz scored on the power play in the third period for Rhinelander, which was outshot 46-24 in the game. Caleb Dickens scored six times for Tomahawk. Tyler Kimmerling stopped 35 pucks in the loss for Rhinelander.
The Hodags (2-2-0, 0-1-0-0 Great Northern) travel to Stevens Point to face Pacelli on Tuesday.
Boys swimming: Rhinelander 92, Tomahawk 42; Rhinelander 97, Medford 36
The Rhinelander High School boys’ swim team took 10 of 11 events on Thursday and cruised to a double dual victory on the road, beating Tomahawk 92-42 and Medford 97-36 in Great Northern Conference play in Medford.
Mathias Fugle won all four of his events for the Hodags, taking the 100-yard butterfly, the 100 backstroke and swimming on the Hodags’ winning 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays. Shawn Denis took the 100 and the 200 freestyle for Rhinelander, Brock Arrowood claimed the 50 and the 500 freestyle, Samson Shinners won the 200 individual medley and Charlie Antonuk won the 100 breaststroke.
Rhinelander (2-0 Great Northern) travels to Wisconsin Rapids for an invite on Saturday.
