Local race, international impact

Participants in the 11th annual Hodag Mini-Triathlon gather for a pre-race meeting prior to the race Saturday, Aug. 26 at Holiday Acres Resort. The event serves as a fundraiser for Wise Intentional Leadership Development (WILD), a Rhinelander-based ministry that fosters youth leadership skills, both locally and internationally. Pictured, Rev. Edward Baleke, WILD Uganda Regional Coordinator, speaks to the participants. “When we do things in life with intention, knowing that what we do has results that have a real impact, then we know that whatever we do that is not just for today, but for generations,” Baleke said. “Being here and being part of this is not just for the fun of it, but it’s to change lives and, in lives, change generations.” Shortly thereafter, roughly 90 participants took off in a race that included a 300-yard swim (or 1/2-mile kayak), an 10-kilometer bike ride and a 5-kilometer run.
