RHS Sports recap: Saturday, Aug. 26
Volleyball: Rhinelander 3-0, Wis. Dells Invite
The Rhinelander High School volleyball team won all three of its matches on Saturday to win the Bronze Division of the Friendship Tournament in Wisconsin Dells, placing 13th overall in the 18-team tournament.
The Hodags won their pool, defeating Oshkosh North (20-25, 25-18, 15-11) and Rio (25-16, 25-14) to make it to the bronze pool championship game, where the swept Clintonville (25-19, 25-17).
Lily Treder had 10 digs to lead Rhinelander on Saturday, Kelsi Beran added nine kills while Macey Schmoeger and Libbey Buchmann had seven kills each. Lucy Lindner had 40 assists and Emma Chiamulera had eight digs.
Rhinelander (7-3, 0-0 Great Northern) opens conference play at home against Antigo on Thursday.
Girls’ Tennis: Rhinelander 1-1, Wausau Invite
The Rhinelander High School girls’ tennis team split its final matches in an invite at Wausau on Saturday.
The Hodags started the day with a 6-1 loss to Madison Memorial before defeating Chippewa Falls, 4-3.
Brooke Sisel and Evelyn Sawyer scored Rhinelander’s lone win against Madison Memorial, prevailing at No. 2 doubles. Tori Riopel, Dawsyn Barkus and Shayla Coppenger swept the top three spots in singles against Chippewa Falls. The remaining four flights went match tiebreakers, Kayla Tessmann and Karmen Lopez prevailed in their tiebreaker at No. 1 doubles to secure the win in the dual.
Rhinelander (7-10, 0-0 Great Northern) opens conference play at home against Pacelli on Tuesday.
