RHS Sports recap: Wednesday, Aug. 23

Girls’ swimming: Rhinelander 1st/6, Colby Pentahalon

The Rhinelander High School girls’ swim team set six meet records and dominated the six-team Colby/Abbotsford Pentathlon on Wednesday. 

The Hodags racked up 564 points in the meet. Rice Lake was second with 73.

Abi Winnicki won four of five events and took the overall pentathlon for the second year in a row with a cumulative time of 2 minutes, 50.87 seconds. She set a senior class record in the 50 freestyle (24.97) in the process. Karis Francis set the overall record in the 100 breaststroke (30.79) was was second overall. Celia Francis set freshman records in three events plus the overall pentathlon as she finished third. 

Lily Throsen was fifth overall for Rhinelander and tops amongst juniors. Vivian Lamers was sixth, Ellyse Younker was eighth and Millie Gruett finished 10th. 

Rhinelander (0-0) opens Great Northern Conference play at Ladysmith Thursday, Aug. 31.
