RHS Sports recap: Thursday, Aug. 17

Girls’ swimming: Rhinelander 1st/12, Merrill Relays

The Rhinelander High School girls’ swim team made an opening statement Thursday afternoon, winning seven of nine events to take first place in the 12-team Merrill Fun in the Sun Relays. 

Rhinelander and Stevens Point finished 1-2 in every event, with the Hodags running the final five races to win the meet by 20 points over the Panthers. 

Eleven different Hodags played a role in at least one win, led by seniors Karis Francis and Abi Winnicki, who were each part of four winning relays. Freshmen Vivian Lamers and Celia Francis were each on three winning relays, along with juniors Lily Thorsen and Ellyse Younker. Sam Sundby, Emma Houg and Ella Heck were part of two wins while June Chiamulera and Kiley Pooch were each on one winning relay. 

Next up, the Hodags travel to Colby/Abbotsford this coming Wednesday for an individual pentathlon meet.
