The Northwood Golf Club Ladies League held its annual Pink Night for breast cancer awareness Tuesday, Aug. 1. According to event coordinator Carole Zierden, the event brought in a record $5,300 this year. Proceeds from the event will be donated to the James Beck Cancer Center at Aspirus Rhinelander Hospital and the Ties that Bind Us in Tomahawk.

“To get to $5,300 this year was unbelievable,” Zierden told the River News. “I had two donations that were just anonymous donations that were just above and beyond. These businesses stepped up for their cause and their belief for the breast cancer research and the funding that we do to help the people here with the wig closet here at James Beck and the Ties that Bind Us as Sacred Heart Hospital in Tomahawk.”

Zierden said, since its inception in 2009, the event has now raised roughly $28,500 — the majority of which has been given back to local cancer organizations. Zierden thanked Northwood Golf Club, the NWGC Ladies League, the Inshalla Country Club Ladies League in Tomahawk, her event committee and the community for their support.

“I couldn’t be more proud and pleased that anybody who comes in there, needs assistance and needs help, we can do it. We can help them and give them a little dignity in their life,” she said.
