The session are set for 1 to 3:30 p.m. Cost is $10 per person. Individuals can sign up and pay through the Rhinelander Ice Arena website at: https://rhinelanderice.sportngin.com/register/form/980270244.
"Back by popular demand we are doing another Learn to Curl at the Rhinelander Ice Arena. Sign up right away as we filled up in less than 2 weeks," event organizers stated in a press release.
The event is open to all ages and abilities. Players will learn to slide out of the "hack" (starting block), release a stone, sweep the stone down the ice, strategy and scoring, curling etiquette and the history of the game. Participants will need to bring clean tennis shoes to change into and wear on the ice, and dress in comfortable warm clothing and gloves. Kids under 12 need to bring a helmet.
Seniors or others who find sliding difficult will be taught how to deliver a stone using a push stick.
After having a great time on the ice, we will retire to the warm room where we will "broom stack," enjoying beverages and snacks.
"Don't worry, all these special curling terms will also be taught during this Learn To Curl," said Terri Gleason, one of the curling organizers. "The volunteers teaching you have over 100 years of combined experience and are of all levels and have competed in world events and national events. They are seniors, high-performance athletes and club curlers."
Organizers stated there will be an advanced class for those who participation in the April 16 Learn to Curl sessions, which will cover etiquette and strategy as well as an actual game.
