RHS sports recap: Thursday, April 20
Ava Lamers and Sophie Miljevich each recorded hat tricks, while Leah Jamison added a pair of goals, as the RHS girls' soccer team rolled to an 8-0 win over Merrill in the Hodag Dome.
All three players scored twice in the first half as the Hodags built a 6-0 lead. Miljevich finished her hat trick in the 46th minute while Lamers scored her third of the game, and 12th of the season, in the 49th minute to round out the scoring before the game was called at 60 minutes due to the eight-goal rule.
The Hodags outshot Merrill 45-1 in the match. Sophomore Emalee Detienne, making her first varsity start, did not face a shot on goal as she recorded a shutout.
Rhinelander (4-2-0, 2-0-0-0 Great Northern) has won four straight games, outscoring opponents 27-1 in that span, and will host Northland Pines this coming Tuesday.
Softball: Medford 13, Rhinelander 3
The RHS softball team held an early lead on top-ranked Medford, but could not hold on, falling to the Raiders 13-3 Thursday in the Hodag Dome.
Rhinelander led 3-1 after two innings thanks to an Addi DeMeyer two-run homer in the first, followed by Nora Rutkowski singling and scoring on a throwing error in the second. Medford scored four times in the third, however, sparking a string of 12 unanswered runs to end the contest.
DeMeyer took the loss, allowing six runs in three hits with seven walks and three strikeouts over four innings. The Hodags managed four hits in the contest.
Rhinelander (4-9, 1-4 Great Northern) had a home game against Wausau East scheduled for Friday postponed until May 12. The Hodags are scheduled to host Tomahawk in GNC play Tuesday.
