RHS sports recap: Tuesday, April 11
Ava Lamers scored twice as the Rhinelander High School girls' soccer team picked up its first win of the season Tuesday night, defeating Washburn 2-1 at Mike Webster Stadium.
Lamers scored the game-winner in the 67th minute, carrying the ball most of the length of the field before firing a shot to the upper left hand corner of the goal. She also scored at the 17-minute mark, canceling out an Amelia Croteau goal in the 15th minute.
The Castle Guards had multiple good looks in the final 10 minutes, but could not find the equalizer. Mya Krouze stopped seven shots in the win and the Hodags outshot Washburn 28-13 overall.
Rhinelander (1-2-0, 0-0-0 Great Northern) kicks off the conference season at home against Medford on Thursday.
