"Kate's experience impacting the lives of children will be a great asset to FORK and our continued efforts to improve the lives of children," FORK President Perry Pokrandt stated. "Her passion for children makes her a great fit on a board filled with impassioned servants."
FORK is a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide nutritional support to children from food insecure homes within the Northland Pines, Three Lakes, and Phelps School Districts.
Ferrel explained why joining the FORK Board of Directors was the right move for her.
"The welfare and educational opportunities available to all of our area children are of great concern to me," she said. "Feed Our Rural Kids' efforts to push back against food insecurity for area children is a great first step in ensuring area children have the best chance possible to live a happy, healthy and successful lives."
FORK accomplish their mission through three distinct prongs of outreach. First are the 5 nutritional support programs they manage and fund. Secondly, FORK provides support to families across all of Oneida and Vilas County through their Family Food Helpline, a partnership with the Vilas and Oneida County Departments of Social Services. Lastly, the FORK Endowment provides financial support to other organizations within their jurisdiction who, like FORK, work to feed children.
"Going forward, we are confident that Kate Ferrel will help our organization see all that is possible and define more clearly all that is needed in support of food insecure children," Pokrandt said.
