Donald was born in Rhinelander on April 25, 1946, to Walter and Theresa (Alsteen) Hankey. He attended Rhinelander public Schools and later was employed by Headwaters Inc working, there for many years. Don was known for being a quiet, and shy person, and was loved by his family.
He enjoyed baseball and collecting baseball cards. He also enjoyed watching old time movies, especially westerns.
Surviving Donald are his siblings, Helen Croker of Eagle River, Donna Jensen, Susie Wakely, and Robert (Elizabeth) Hankey all of Rhinelander. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews and other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Theresa and Walter Hankey, sisters, Shelby (Ted) Dutton, Mary (Bob) Behm, Katherine Wakely, and brothers, Walter Hankey, and Tim Hankey.
The visitation for Donald will take place on Friday, April 14, 2023, at the Hildebrand Funeral Home from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. memorial service. Chaplain John Uhlarik will be officiating.
Following the service, there will be a procession to Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Cemetery where the committal service will take place.
