Gene attended grade school and high school in Milwaukee and graduated from Nicolet High School in 1961. After graduation, he attended the University of Milwaukee for two years and was in the Army ROTC. After he left college, he was employed at an eye clinic in Milwaukee until moving to Rothschild. While there, he worked at the Eye Clinic of Wisconsin at the Wausau Office for a year and a half before moving to Rhinelander to continue working at the Eye Clinic of Wisconsin Rhinelander Office as an ophthalmic technician/supervisor until his retirement in 2009. He met and married Christine Bissonnette on July 13, 2002.
Gene took great pride in his family and thoroughly enjoyed motorcycling. He traveled across the United States sightseeing, looking for waterfalls, and enjoying the scenery stopping at anything that looked interesting. He also enjoyed target practice, some hunting throughout the years, and loved going to the grandchildren's sporting events through the years. His family was the most important thing in his life and he always loved to spend time with them.
Gene is survived by his wife Christine, daughter Victoria "Vicky" (Mark) VanUs of Pulaski, son Craig Quandt of Rhinelander, stepchildren Justin and Luke Baker of Rhinelander, grandchildren Quintin and Madison VanUs, Angel Quandt, Kaylee, Isabelle, Issac, Mason, and Johnny Baker, great-grandchild Bentley, brothers John and Jeff Quandt, and other family members and many friends.
