Walter was the son of Margaret (Novack) Prien and Walter Prien Sr. He was born on Jan. 11, 1949 in Madison.
Walter was in the U.S. Army from Aug. 23, 1968 to Aug. 16, 1971. Walter is survived by one sister, Sandra (Habel) of Rhinelander, one brother, Roger of Eagle River, many nieces and nephews, friends and one aunt, Dorothy Hasey of Columbus.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Warren and William, grandparents, aunts and uncles, and a nephew.
Walter spent most of his time helping others - donating time to charities such as Ruby's Pantry, Sunshine for Humanities Charities. He delivered for Meals on Wheels in his community, belonged to the Knights of Columbus, and drove people to their appointments, among many other good deeds.
Funeral Mass will be said for Walter on Oct. 1 at St. Kunegunda Church in Sugar Camp. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. with the Mass to follow at 11 a.m.
A luncheon will be held following the service.
