The Rhinelander middle school cross country team took second in the girls' division and third in the boys' division in the nine-team Hodag Invite Thursday, Sept. 8 at Rhinelander High School.

The Hodag girls' finished behind only D.C. Everest and placed ahead of GNC programs Tomahawk, Lakeland, Northland Pines and Antigo. Sixth-grader Teagan Clark was one of three Hodags to get a top-10 medal in the girls' race, scoring a runner-up finish in a time of 13 minutes, 35 seconds. Eighth graders Ella Miljevich (13:59) and Lucy Eddy (14:22) finished sixth and eighth, respectively.

Aleece Johnson took 14th overall, Hayley Schiek was 19th, Noelle Mayo finished 43rd and Kaleiha Glebke rounded out the scoring in 49th.

The Hodag boys also finished ahead of their GNC counterparts, placing behind only Three Lakes and D.C. Everest. Eighth-graders Jackson Weinzatl (sixth, 12:20) and Avrom Barr (ninth, 12:33) wound up on the podium for the Hodags.

Henry Schmitz was 12th followed by Austen Slette in 26th, Juan Diego Grage in 43rd, Jonathan Campbell in 59th and Wyatt Crowell in 79th.

The Hodags followed that up by taking first in the Antigo middle school invite Tuesday, Sept. 13 in Antigo. Clark (14:59.1), Miljevich and Eddy swept the top three spots individually for the Hodag girls. Johnson finished fifth and Schiek was seventh. Barr, Weinzatl, Schmitz and Michael Tredupp took spots 2-5 for the Hodag boys with Crowell finishing ninth and Grage placing 10th.
