Senior middle Ava Lamers and junior libero Emma Chiamulera both received honorable mention. The honors were a result of voting conducted by the conference coaches last Wednesday in Tomahawk.
"That's great for our program and for them," Hodag coach Dan Wolter noted.
Lamers was Rhinelander's leader in a number of categories this season - including kills, total attacks, attacking percentage, service aces and total blocks. She was also second on the team in digs. Her 76 kills ranked ninth overall in the GNC. She was also ninth in the conference with a .155 attacking percentage and seventh in the GNC with 0.53 blocks per set.
"Ava had a pretty good year," Wolter said. "Her numbers, the way she plays and just being a six-rotation player for us really stood out to a lot of the coaches in the conference.
Chiamulera received honors as a defensive specialist. She led the team with 124 digs in conference play and her 3.3 digs per set ranked fifth overall in the GNC.
"Emma, being a libero, it basically revolves around just one stat line and that's digs in the back row," Wolter said. "She had 124 for us in conference. Again, another mark on the top 10 leaderboard. She was very well-deserving of those honors. Emma always was kind of our safety net there in the back row, keeping us in points and popping the ball back up."
Rhinelander finished 0-12 in league play but did win a pair of sets toward the end the season - their first set wins in the GNC since 2019.
Tomahawk's Meghan Scholz was named the conference's player of the year. She led the conference in kills (157), attacking percentage (.527) and total blocks (47), helping to lead the Hatchets to a undefeated GNC title. Antigo's Jesse Knetter was voted coach of the year.
Other All-GNC teams announced
The GNC has also posted its all-conference cross country and girls' tennis teams. Those teams were based on performances in each sport's respective conference tournament.
The Hodag girls' tennis team had nine all-conference honorees, led by GNC No. 1 doubles champions and players of the year Taylor Riopel and Helena Wisner. Kelsey Winter (No. 2 singles), Dawsyn Barkus (No. 4 singles) and Paige Oleinik/Kayla Tessman (No. 2 doubles) earned second-team honors by virtue of runner-up finishes at conference. Tori Riopel (No. 1 singles) and Brooke Sisel/Evelyn Sawyer (No. 3 doubles) received honorable mention. Rhinelander's Matt Nichols was voted coach of the year.
In cross country, Greyson Gremban and Cody Ruetz earned all-GNC first team honors by finishing sixth and seventh, respectively, the GNC meet Oct. 15 in Medford. Olin Slette (21st) received honorable mention on the boys' side, while Juliana Smith (17th) and Leah Jamison (18th) earned honorable mention on the girls' side.
The all-conference team for boys' soccer and girls' swim will be announced at a later date.
