Thomas Patrick Duffy, Sr., age 88, passed away on Oct. 20, 2022 at Milestone Senior Living after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease. He was surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 27, 1934, in Rhinelander, and was the son of Thomas and Ida (Dahlin) Duffy.

Tom was born and raised in Rhinelander, graduating from Rhinelander High School in 1952. As a young boy, he helped in his parent's grocery store (Duffy's Store on Stevens Street) and he enjoyed helping everyone who came in for groceries. Tom was employed by the Rhinelander Paper Company for 42 years and retired as a utility supervisor in the power department in 1998.

Tom had many interests, including hunting, traveling, boating, and shooting trap and single-shot rifle. He was an expert marksman and earned many medals in competitions all over the country. He was a life-time member, past president, and on the Board of Directors of the Hodag Sports Club. He was always willing to step up and worked very hard to ensure the future and success of the Sports Club.

Tom is survived by his wife Julianne (Kufahl), whom he met on a blind date on July 5, 1956. They were married on Oct. 19, 1957. They loved the 65 years they had together and always enjoyed doing things together. They loved summers at the lake home they built and spent the past 20 winters at their home in North Fort Myers, Fla. They fondly remember cross country skiing and snowshoeing, but gave that up when they discovered how nice winters are in Florida.

Tom is also survived by his son Thomas Jr. and daughter Susan (Linda Ganister) of Ely, Minn. Other surviving family members include his sister Joanne O'Brien, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents his sisters Betty Hargraves and June Wiedeman and his brothers-in-law Floyd Hargraves and Charles O'Brien.

The family would like to thank the staff at Milestone Senior Living for the attentive care the past few months. And a special thank you to niece Carrie who provided compassionate and loving care for Uncle Tom.

Visitation for Tom will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2022 from 10 a.m. to noon, with funeral services following at noon, all at the Carlson Funeral Home. Reverend John Kuziej will be officiating. Interment will take place in the Forest Home Cemetery. You may leave your private condolences for the Duffy family at www.carlsonfh.com.

The Carlson Funeral Home (715) 369-1414 is serving the Duffy family.
