Just in time for cold weather, Warm for Winter is back. The annual community effort to provide free clothing and accessories was halted during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to organizers Gale Willcox and Jan Leschke.

Beginning on Saturday, Oct. 29, from 10 a.m. until noon, the doors will be open to all. Everyone is welcome, with no income requirements and no questions asked.

Clothing of all sizes, bedding, shoes and boots, coats, hats and mittens, toys and books will be given away. All of the locally-donated items have been sorted and organized in a space donated by Friendly Village, 900 Boyce Drive in Rhinelander.

Leschke and Willcox hope to hold several more giveaways through the winter.

For years the two have been overseeing the effort until 2020 when the pandemic hit.

At that time, volunteers gathered the inventory and shipped it to Fort McCoy for Afghan refugees. Donations continued, though, and are still being collected in a bin outside of the United First Congregational Church in Rhinelander.

Questions can be addressed to Jan Leschke at 715-362-7157.
