On Friday, Oct. 14, Northwoods residents got their first dose of what will soon be an eventual reality - winter is coming. Rhinelander received its first measurable snowfall of the season during the morning hours on Friday, leaving grassy surfaces covered with roughly a half-inch of accumulation. Friday's event took place earlier in the season than normal. According to the National Weather Service Office in Green Bay, the average date of the city's first measurable snowfall is Nov. 5. Occasional rain and snow showers persisted through the weekend. Autumn is expected to return to the Northwoods by the end of this week, with high temperatures moderating back into the 50s.
