Dairy donation: Local food pantry receives two pallets of milk through the Giving Cow Project
"Milk can be a challenging food item for a pantry. It is expensive and has a short shelf life," noted Courtney Smith, associate executive director of the RAFP. "Milk is an important ingredient in our food bags for kids. Kids can drink it, pour it over cereal or oatmeal, and use it to prepare meals. This donation through the Giving Cow Project not only helps to provide needed nutrition, but it also helps RAFP to extend our budget. We received over 3,000 servings of milk. If we purchased this milk, it would cost about $3,400. This donation helps RAFP to purchase nutrition-dense, quality products for the Weekend Food Kids program, the Hodag Food Wagon and the Hodag Snack Attack. Through these programs we reach hundreds of kids throughout the year."
The support of the Rhinelander community is a vital part of the work of RAFP. "We would like to acknowledge Trig's of Rhinelander for their support and participation in the Giving Cow Project. They help by receiving the milk and making sure that our community has access to this valuable program." Smith said. RAFP also encourages the community to support local businesses and products that join in the effort to create a strong and healthy community. "We as consumers can use our buying power to address food insecurity in our own backyard." Smith noted.
