Joan was united in marriage in February of 1962 to Jerry Hartman. He preceded her in death.
Surviving are her children, Deanna (Mike) Watts, Glendale, Ariz.; Julie Hartman, Wausau; David (Kris) Hartman, Yukon, Okla.; grandchildren, Antonio, Ashley (Dan), Bryce, Larissa (James), Austin, Nick, Madison (Logan) Chloe and Ben, and a great-grandchild, Palmer. She loved her cat companions, Tilly and Abby that were always by her side.
Joan and Jerry resided in South Dakota, Milwaukee, Rhinelander, and their final years in Arizona.
Joan and Jerry moved to Arizona in November 2003 and Joan took on the role of "Director of Activities" no matter where she went. She was constantly hosting social events such as potluck dinners, social hours, Packer game parties, and board and card games.
Joan was focused on her family and loved when she could spend time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren.
Joan was an amazing role model for her kids, showing her strength and courage. One thing you could always count on, was she kept track of what you needed to do, when it needed to be done, and the exact time. We loved that about her! Joan has asked that we not follow having a formal service and instead have a celebration of life for her and Jerry, which will be scheduled in 2023. This event will be held at the family home in Rhinelander. Family and friends will be invited to share their wonderful memories.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Julie Hartman for a custom bench that will be placed on the property in memory of Jerry and Joan Hartman.
Local arrangements have been entrusted to the Hildebrand Funeral Home & Cremation Specialists, 24 E. Davenport Street, Rhinelander, Wisconsin, 54501, 715-365-4343. Everyone is invited to sign the guestbook or leave an online condolence at www.hildebrandrussfh.com.
