"My grandmother was a wonderful, kind, stoic, brave, gorgeous, fierce firestorm of a woman. Paved her way, weathered storms, all while guiding others along the way to brighter days. Always seemed to know what was right and always spoke her truth. Books made her wise in ways only legends would understand. The many adventures they took her on seemed to help guide her to a greater level of understanding. You guys, the woman could read. It was her life study, and I don't even think she realized it. When I think back to the memories that make up my grandma, I think of adventures, I think of the Never-Ending Story (it was my favorite movie to watch at grandma's house) My grandma loved fantasy and adventure. It gave her life! It gave her reason to make this sometimes-mundane human experience a little more fun! A little more cozy, a little more exciting, a little more happy. She took me 'water-fall' chasing! We drove to as many waterfalls as we could in one day! We even went off the trails and had to make a bridge using a downed tree to get over a river, so we could get a closer look at the waterfall! She was amazing! Her body may have been fragile, but her spirit was a force to be reckoned with! To me, she was invincible. Tough as nails yet tender and warm. The scent of crisp autumn leaves at an apple orchard, frosted juniper by a campfire, or warm cinnamon cookies on a cold winter night followed her. Always. She exuded warmth! She absolutely loved lighthouses. She loved the fact that they were strong enough to withstand the oceans fury, in order to guide a light to others. They were so beautiful to her. All along, that's exactly what she was. A lighthouse, a pillar of strength and hope. I just want her to know that so badly. She always rooted for the underdog. If she saw someone struggling, she made it her purpose to help and stand beside those who couldn't stand for themselves. You couldn't leave her house without her giving you a gift of some sort. She just wanted to see you smile. She was deeper than the ocean, and wiser than the trees, and stronger than a wolf, and more beautiful than the northern lights. We were lucky to have her. I am lucky to come from a long line of strong women. Strong women shaped by her. She had a way of lighting a fire within the hearts of everyone she touched. I promise to keep those embers within me burning until my last breath. I love you grandma. Heaven is so lucky to have you."
A private family service will be held at a later date.
