Wilma Glaize Helmick
Wilma was born in Rhinelander on Aug. 21, 1927, to Harry and Anna (Gormley) Cook. She was raised in Rhinelander and was a 1945 graduate of Rhinelander High School. Wilma married Virgil Helmick in Rhinelander at St. Mary's Catholic Church in 1948. The couple then made their home in Three Lakes, until moving to Rhinelander in 1987.
Wilma was a member of Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church and shared her faith by taking communion to those residing in nursing homes and to shut-ins.
She enjoyed gardening, was an avid reader, baking, walking, cross country skiing, and enjoyed dining at supper clubs.
Surviving Wilma are her children, Pat (Suzanne) Helmick of Birmingham, Alabama, Timothy (Linda) Helmick of Rhinelander, and Rita (Terry) Lemmens of Rhinelander; two grandchildren, Kevin Helmick and Michelle (Scott) Wolfe; three great-grandchildren, Jonas Helmick and Kyra and Lauren Wolfe, and sister-in-law, Audrey Helmick of Winchester, Virginia. Also surviving are other relatives and friends.
Wilma is preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Anna Cook, husband, Virgil and one sister, Ruth Bodwin.
The visitation for Wilma will take place on Friday, Nov. 11, 2022, at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church, located at 125 E. King Street, Rhinelander, from 10:30 a.m. until the 11:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial. Fr. Chris Kemp will officiate.
Memorial contributions in honor of Wilma may be given to the American Heart Association, 2850 Dairy Drive #130, Madison, Wisconsin 53718.
