Carole was born in Milwaukee, on October 3, 1934, to James R. and Liona J. (Trapp) Wyant. She attended school in Shorewood until the family moved to Elcho when she was 13 years old. Carole then attended Elcho Public Schools and was a 1952 graduate of Elcho High School. On the day of their graduation, Carole and her future husband, Duane "Tuffy" Johnson, were engaged. Carole moved to Milwaukee to attend secretarial school for one year at Prospect Hall. She then was employed at Weyenberg Shoe Factory. Carole lived in Milwaukee for a short period of time before returning to Rhinelander in 1954. She and Duane were united in marriage on September 4, 1954, in Elcho. Carole was employed by Oneida County for 14 years as the Deputy Clerk of Courts.
Carole enjoyed camping, spending time with her children and grandchildren and watching them participate in sports. She also enjoyed traveling especially on two cruises.
She was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church and a past member of a couple's bowling league.
Survivors include her children: Gary (Martha) Johnson of Elcho, Terry Johnson (Lee Oberto) of Bessemer, Mich., and Jerry "Moose" (Susie) Johnson of Rhinelander; six grandchildren: Angela (Kenneth) Eastman, Jamie (Jason) Wilson, Melissa (Ryan) Rose, Krissy Specht (Chad Ewald), Kevin (Ashley) Johnson and Tyler Johnson; three great-grandchildren: David and Amber Eastman and Kashton Tuffy Johnson, five step-great-grandchildren: Ava, Lauren and Emery Wilson and Mason and Carter Rose; one brother, James (Donna) Wyant of Clinton, Tenn., and a sister Gloria (Ron) Hitt of Mosinee. Also surviving are nieces, nephews and other relatives and many friends.
Carole was preceded in death by her parents, one grandson David Johnson, and her husband, Duane "Tuffy" Johnson on August 17, 2021.
The visitation for Carole will be held on Saturday, May 28, 2022, at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 21 S. Baird Ave, from 10 a.m. until the 11:30 a.m. memorial service, with Rev. Richard Miller officiating. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Northland Memorial Park, Rhinelander.
