The Oneida County sheriff's office is asking for the public's assistance in obtaining information about alleged "criminal incidents" involving Frank Schuman, 29, of Lac du Flambeau.

According to a press release issued Friday afternoon, an investigation is underway involving alleged "incidents where Schuman has committed violent acts against women."

"If anyone has information about Schuman's involvement in these types of incidents or has had contact with victims of these incidents, we ask that you assist law enforcement in protecting the women of our community by contacting law enforcement at 715-361-5201," the release states.

The Wisconsin Department of Justice-Division of Criminal Investigation and other northern law enforcement agencies are also involved in the investigation, the release states.

Schuman, who is a mixed martial arts fighter, was sentenced to 8 months in jail in June 2018 after standing trial in Vilas County Circuit Court on several charges related to domestic abuse. The jury convicted him of three misdemeanors but acquitted him on eight other charges, according to court records.

Court records also show a new case was filed against Schuman May 11 in Oneida County Circuit Court. In that case, he is charged with three felonies: substantial battery (intend bodily harm) with a domestic abuse enhancer, first-degree recklessly endangering safety with a domestic abuse enhancer, and false imprisonment with a domestic abuse enhancer. The complaint also includes six misdemeanor counts all with the domestic abuse enhancer. Bail has been set at $10,000 cash and an adjourned initial appearance scheduled for May 16. According to the sheriff's office, Schuman has not posted bond in that case.

He faces a maximum of 22 years in prison if convicted of all three felony counts.
