Romelle "Mel" "Romey" Vandervest
Romelle moved to Rhinelander with her family when she was nine years old. She graduated from Rhinelander High School in 1985. She married Mike Vandervest in 2005, and they recently celebrated their 17th wedding anniversary.
Romelle was one of those people who loved life to the fullest. Her larger than life personality, vivacious smile, and infectious laugh brightened people's lives and left a lasting impression on every person she met. She very much enjoyed working at Northwoods Title and Closing Services as a closing specialist for the past nine years. She was a member of the Rhinelander Kiwanis Club for many years, and served as the Winter Escapes Coordinator while raising money to benefit Rhinelander area children. Her dedication to the community earned her the George F. Hixon Fellowship Award in 2017, the Kiwanis highest honor.
In her free time Romelle enjoyed being outdoors, golfing with her husband and friends, being on bowling and pool leagues, attending Hodag Country Festival, spending time with family, and most of all spending weekends at the cabin with Mike and their dog Merl.
Romelle was preceded in death by her grandparents and mother Beverly.
She is survived by her father Robert, husband Mike, stepchildren Shelly, Larry, and Josie, sisters Christine (Tim) and Jennifer (Eric), brothers Bob (Jodi), Nick (Tricia), and Pete (Michelle), grandchildren Leah and Jaime, many cousins, nieces and nephews.
A visitation and celebration for Romelle will take place from noon to 2 p.m. on Friday, May 20, 2022 at the Carlson Funeral Home. You may leave your private condolences for her family at www.carlsonfh.com.
