Allen O. Montgomery, age 79, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, March 19, 2022, surrounded by his loving family and amidst the sound of scripture, song and prayer.

Al was born on Dec. 18, 1942, in Marshfield, the eldest son of Allen D. and Lydia (Schlinsog) Montgomery of Granton. He graduated from Granton High School in 1960. He met his wife of 59 years, Beatrice I. DeLeske, while roller skating and they were married on Nov. 3, 1962. A year later he joined the U.S. Air Force serving from 1963 to 1971 and was stationed in Texas, Kansas, and overseas in Thailand during the Vietnam War.

His outgoing and friendly nature led to a career in sales of everything from snacks and candy, to bar and restaurant supplies, to beer in the Wisconsin Rapids area. The Lord then called him into full-time ministry. Following his graduation from Concordia University in 1990, Al and Bea relocated to Rhinelander where Al served as Deacon and then Pastor of Our Savior's Lutheran Church for the past 31 years. He was fully ordained in 2001. He also served as Pastor at Grace Lutheran Church in Three Lakes for the past six years.

One of Al's favorite past-times was square dancing, and he was a square dance caller for 40 years. He primarily called for the Levi's & Lace Square Dance Club in Woodruff, along with other clubs and state conventions. He enjoyed the outdoors, deer hunting, shooting, and a few hands of sheepshead at family gatherings.

Al is survived by his wife Bea, son Scott (Diana) Montgomery of Apple Valley, Minn., daughter Darla (Tim) Neargarth of Plymouth, four grandchildren - Jessica (Drew) Markel, Matt (Morgan) Montgomery, Sarah (Zeb) Jones, and Kelly Montgomery, and three great-grandchildren - Daniel Markel, Molly Markel, and Piper Jones, his sisters Colleen (Jerry) Michaelis, Connie (Ray) Mullins, Gayle (T.J.) Urban and his brother Brett (Kerri) Montgomery.

He was preceded in death by his parents Allen and Lydia Montgomery.

Visitation for Al will be held on Friday, March 25, 2022, from 10 a.m. to noon, with funeral services following at noon, all at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Rhinelander. Reverend Richard Miller will be officiating. A private burial will be held at Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery in Granton on Saturday.
