Elizabeth "Betty" Monroe, age 93, of Rhinelander, died peacefully on March 19, 2022, at Milestone Senior Living, with her loving family at her side. Betty was born in Columbus on Nov. 8, 1928 to Rose and William Kasper. She married Cyril A. Monroe on Sept. 9, 1950, moved to and resided in West Bend until 1976 when they moved to Rhinelander. They owned and operated the Bronze Wheel Campground from 1976-1988. Betty was a member of Nativity of Our Lord Parrish.

She is survived by her daughters, Joan (John) Schutts, Susan (Dan) Garman, Carolyn (Brad) Hoffman; sons, Michael Monroe, and Patrick (Pam) Monroe; grandchildren: Jennifer (Ken) Schmidt, Kristin (Keith) Armstrong, Paul Monroe, Mark(Rhiannon) Monroe, Kara (Nick) Waggoner, Jill Schutts, Amy (Les Huisman) Garman, Steven (Kate) Garman, Markie and Paige Monroe, Jacob, Samuel, and Sarah Hoffman, along with 15 great-grandchildren; sisters: Carol Beck, Barb Schriever, Kathy Kessenick; brother-in-law Edward Monroe and sister-in-law Hazel Lohr, as well as many other relatives and friends.

Betty is preceded in death by her husband Cyril on Aug. 15, 2003; sisters: Marian Krupp, Beatrice Boettcher, Monica Burke, Rosella Tiedt, Margaret O'Rourke, Patricia Gibson; brother, James Kasper and daughter-in-law, Nancy Monroe.

Betty was a stay-at-home Mom dedicating her life to caring for her husband, five children, 13 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting, crossword puzzles, and baking, especially bread and chocolate-chip cookies. She was an amazing gardener and preserved enough to serve homegrown vegetables and fruit throughout the year. Her green thumb was also evident by the many beautiful plants she cared for in her home. Betty donated blood on a regular basis. She volunteered for more than 20 years with the SSADH Association in honor of her grandson, Sam. During the summer Betty loved spending time with her family on the beach and in the water. In the winter she enjoyed getting everyone outside sledding with a big bonfire to keep warm. Betty also enjoyed traveling and visited every state in the U.S. with her husband, Cyril, of 53 years. Although she was much more adventurous than Cyril, she didn't go far without him.

Our family would like to extend grateful appreciation to Dr. Koeppl, the caring staff at Milestone, and Compassus hospice.

In lieu of flowers, donations are welcome to the SSADH Association (www.ssadh.net/donate) in honor of Betty's grandson, Sam. Checks can be made payable to the SSADH Association and mailed to SSADH Association, PO Box 180622, Delafield, WI 53018.

Visitation for Betty will be held on Friday, May 6, 2022 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial following at 11:30 a.m., at the Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church. Father Chris Kemp will be officiating. You may leave your private condolences for the Monroe family at www.carlsonfh.com.

The Carlson Funeral Home (715-369-1414) is serving the Monroe family.
