Habitat for Humanity Northwoods Wisconsin was recently selected as the recipient of a nearly $62,000 gift. Lynn Verage, Bob Johnson's niece, presented the check to Dave Havel, executive director of Habitat for Humanity Northwoods Wisconsin. Born and raised in Rhinelander, Johnson left behind numerous financial gifts to local non-profits. A 1964 graduate of Rhinelander High School, he attended UW Madison before being drafted into the Army in 1968. He had a successful career in labor relations, where he worked in the Fox Valley, retiring from Associated Bank in Green Bay as VP of HR. He retired to the Northwoods, eventually building a home on Lake Nokomis in Tomahawk. Johnson passed away in January of 2021 at the age of 75 from Parkinson's. Havel graciously accepted the check from Verage, stating how much he and the Habitat for Humanity Board of Directors appreciate the donation. "This allows us to continue our mission of building and providing homes in Oneida and Vilas counties. Having just completed our 23rd home, we look forward to beginning our 24th this year," said Havel. "This contribution is a huge asset for us." Verage stated that Johnson was generous all his life. "He valued having food, a roof over his head, and education and made plans to share his gifts with those serving these needs."
