Barbara Ann Thompson, of Rhinelander and Tucson, passed away unexpectedly to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Feb. 24, 2022 in Tucson.

She was born Nov. 22, 1946 in Rhinelander, the first of four children of Eunice (Jacobson) and James Pelletier. Barb was a lifelong resident of Rhinelander, graduating with honors from Rhinelander High School in 1964. She married her high school sweetheart, Bob Thompson, in 1967, and they were inseparable ever since. Barb worked in the Rhinelander School District, including many years at Newbold School and then in the district administration building.

A lifelong member of St. Augustine's Church in Rhinelander, Barb lived her life in service to the Lord, and as Jesus taught us, in loving service to others. She sought out the goodness and beauty in all of God's creation. She loved beholding the many sunsets in Tucson and at her cabin in Rhinelander, and enjoyed traveling all over the United States and Europe with family and friends. She marveled at nature with gratitude, and took many hikes in the desert of Arizona and in northern Wisconsin. She loved that these experiences were always with family and friends.

Every morning she prayed for many, many people for whatever their trials might be. She also kept a long list of God's graces and blessings, and thanked Him daily. She respected the dignity of all of God's children, especially those in need. In this spirit she spearheaded the establishment of The Table, a monthly free community meal hosted at St. Augustine's Church.

Barb had a zest for life, and loved laughing. She enjoyed playing cards, dice and board games, watching the Packers, supporting local fine artists and displaying their work. She was also an amazing cook, known for her lasagna, potato salad, Christmas cookies and so many other dishes and baked goods.

Barb cherished her family and friends. Among the many who will always cherish their time with her are her husband, Bob; her boys, Mike (Philena), Paul (Sarah), and Dave (Kim); her grandchildren, Austin, Mindy, Kylie, Ian and Lilly; her siblings, Donna (Steve) Summers, Jim Pelletier, and Mary (Bill) Haney. She loved her many nieces, nephews, and cousins, and her dear friends at Tucson Estates as well as Rhinelander.

She was funny, stylish, graceful, beautiful, patient, kind, compassionate and loving. We will miss her so much, and are incredibly grateful to God for her. Barb never feared death, as she looked forward to meeting the Lord and being reunited with those who passed before her, including her parents, Jim and Eunice Pelletier, and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. In turn, we wait for our time to join her in the next life.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at a later date at St. Augustine's Church in Rhinelander. You may leave your private condolences for the Thompson family at www.carlsonfh.com.
