Pearl Elizabeth Skubal, 91, of Rhinelander, passed away peacefully with her family at her side under the care of Compassus Hospice Saturday, June 25, 2022. Pearl was born in Rhinelander July 25, 1930, to Adolf Francis and Florabelle (Schrump) Gauthier. She was raised in the Rhinelander area and attended schools within the Rhinelander School District. She was united in marriage to Edward Joseph Skubal at St. Mary's Catholic Church Feb. 19, 1949.

Pearl's early years of employment included the Little Midget Café, J.J. Newberry Cafe, and the Pied Piper. After raising her 10 children, she began her career with the Oneida County Sheriff's Department as a cook, and later as a Correctional Officer. She also enjoyed quilting, baking, gardening, and creating Christmas crafts for her family and the annual Nativity Christmas Bazaar. Pearl and her husband Edward were blessed to make trips to Medjugorje, Yugoslavia, China, Hong Kong, and Hawaii and made family trips to Mexico, California, and several other states throughout the U.S. But her greatest joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and family gatherings at "the farm" on holidays and special occasions.

Pearl and Edward placed great value on Catholic Education and passing on the Catholic faith to their children and grandchildren. Pearl was a devoted member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church, and a member of the St. Joseph's and Nativity Women's Club, Rosary Group, Knights of Columbus Auxiliary, and was a past Eucharistic Minister. She and Edward unselfishly gave many hours volunteering for numerous fundraisers at the church over the years. She was a strong advocate for pro-life and stood by her conservative views which coincided with the Catholic faith.

Surviving are her children, Robert (Donna) Skubal of Tomahawk, Edward (Jill) Skubal of West Salem, Sandra Skubal of Rhinelander, Steven (Wilda) Skubal of Tomahawk, Jeffrey (Wanda) Skubal of Rhinelander, Gregory (Connie) Skubal of Rhinelander, Michele (Michael) Hagen of Edgar, Laurie Pospychala of Rhinelander, and James (Laura) Skubal of Rhinelander, a daughter-in-law, Jackie Skubal of Rhinelander, 20 grandchildren and 30-some great-grandchildren, a sister, Florence Tushoski of Rhinelander, half-brother, Ralph (Carolyn) Sutherland of South Carolina and a half-sister, Patricia Whitrock of Oshkosh. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Pearl was preceded in death by her parents, step-mother, Emily (Sheffield) Gauthier, husband, Edward, son, William Skubal, brother, Robert Gauthier and sisters Sylvia Gilbert and Doris Robitz.

The visitation for Pearl will take place Thursday, July 7, 2022, at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church from 9:30 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial with Fr. Chris Kemp officiating. Immediately following the Mass there will be a procession to Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Cemetery, followed by a Luncheon back at Nativity Hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Pearl's name may be given to Nativity of Our Lord Catholic School or to Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hildebrand Funeral Home & Cremation Specialists, 24 E. Davenport Street, Rhinelander, Wisconsin, 54501, 715-365-4343. Everyone is invited to sign the guestbook or leave an online condolence at www.hildebrandrussfh.com.
