Rhinelander Green became the second Hodag team to fall victim to Tomahawk in a matter of three days at Stafford Field.

A six-run fifth inning proved to be the difference Thursday as the Hodags fell behind and eventually lost to the Hatchets, 8-5.

The Hodags led 3-1 until a fifth inning plagued by walks, errors, passed balls and a couple of hard-hit doubles. The Hatchets sent 10 batters to the plate that inning as they took a 7-3 lead and tacked on one more in the sixth off a two-out walk, followed by a double.

Rhinelander got the winning run to the plate in the seventh. Jack Turek hit a one-out single to start the rally followed by back-to-back-

to-back walks to Kaden Vanney, Connor Augustine and Alex Rappley to force in a run. After Oscar Hanson popped out, Johnny Turek singled in a run, but Richard Threlkeld grounded out to short to end the rally.

Rappley gave Rhinelander a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first with an RBI triple to right that turned into a round-tripper thanks to a throwing error to third.

Hanson then walked and scored on a two-out hit by Mason Baker to make it 3-0.

Vanney and Johnny Turek each had three hits in the contest for Rhinelander Green, while Rappley finished 2-for-4.

On the mound, Hanson started and gave up one unearned run on two hits over four innings with seven strikeouts. Vanney took the loss, allowing seven runs on four hits over two innings. Rappley worked a 1-2-3 seventh with a strikeout.

The loss dropped Rhinelander Green (4-2) into a tie for second with Lakeland Black in the Northwoods Senior League, one game behind Crandon. Rhinelander Green was scheduled to host Lakeland Black Monday in a game that concluded after press time for today's edition.

Rhinelander Green is back in action Wednesday at Lakeland Gray.
