On Oct. 16, 1948, Shirley married John Bushong in Mellen. They moved to Rhinelander and she has lived here since. She was employed by the St. Mary's Hospital and at the Golden Age Nursing Home as a nursing assistant/aid for years until her retirement.
Shirley enjoyed roller skating and dancing and was a former beauty queen in the town of Mellen. She loved her home a lot and therefore she did not like to travel much. Her greatest joy came from watching her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren in their sports activities, especially baseball.
Shirley had a strong faith in her Lord and Savior and she nurtured that faith as a longtime member of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Shirley is survived by her daughters Dawn Larson, Lori Bushong and Jackie (Rich) Bushong-Martin, her sons Gary (Mary) Bushong and Terry Bushong, her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other family.
Visitation for Shirley will be held on Monday, June 27, 2022 from 11 a.m. to noon, with funeral services following at noon at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Reverend Karl Schultz will be officiating. Interment will follow in the Northland Memorial Park Cemetery. You may leave your private condolences for the Bushong family at www.carlsonfh.
