Maxine Joyce Meyer was born Feb. 12, 1941 to Michael and Geraldine (Moore) Libby in Rhinelander. She loved figure skating, roller skating, music and dancing, and playing alto saxophone in high school. After graduating from Rhinelander High School, she went to work for attorney Alexander Berbstein. She worked for him for many years becoming a paralegal. On Sept. 28, 1963 she married the love of her life, Walter Leon Meyer. Their life together was 55 years of hard work, laughter, travel and a deep true love and admiration for each other. Due to her birth date, Walter lovingly referred to Maxine as his "forever Valentine". Together they had a son, Corey Michael. They were an extremely active family, camping, traveling, fishing, and helping everyone in the neighborhood. Maxine was very proud of her son and told him daily how loved he was.

She truly lived to help others. She was appointed Register in Probate of Oneida County and worked in that role for over eight years. Maxine was an intelligent, capable woman who lived life on her terms and did things her way. Growing tired of the politics of government, she decided to be her own boss and went to work for herself as a probate paralegal for the attorneys in Rhinelander and surrounding area. She also decided to do volunteer guardianship/conservator work where she was a guardian and friend for many elderly citizens. Maxine took care of her mother and spent many hours and years assisting the Oneida Senior Center in their many activities. She made cute little crafts and packed small treat bags for the meals on wheels program. Maxine and Walt were grateful to those that have served our country and spent countless Saturdays working with the military support group in the boxing and shipping of care packages to the troops overseas. Maxine labeled herself a "tomboy". She loved racing stock cars at the Tomahawk Speedway in the Powder Puff races. She once helped a friend by driving their front end loader to their house on her way to a wedding, all dressed up in her dress and heels. The legend of her physical strength in the family was a running joke. She joined boot camp at the Y and the grandchildren thought she was kick-boxing at age 70. She delighted in telling the kids that she was stronger than them and they didn't dare try to prove her wrong. She adored her grandchildren. She made sure she attended nearly every single event of all 4 kids. She loved playing games and cards, estate sales, agates, chocolate, ice cream and Judge Judy.

Her happiest place was with Walter on the shores of Lake Superior. She loved searching for, polishing and showing off the beautiful agates and other rocks she collected. Her agate collection was well known. We lost Walter in 2018 and we began losing our beloved Max to Alzheimer's disease in 2014. We have held her hand every step of this long goodbye. On the first day of summer, June 21, 2022, Walt had their final and forever camping trip planned and he picked her up early morning. We loved her so deeply and she knew that. She passed peacefully surrounded by love and under the magnificent care of Hayward Health Services and St. Croix Hospice. We are deeply grateful for the superb care and love they provided.

Maxine is survived by her son Corey Michael (Jennifer) Meyer, grandchildren Terrin Michael (Emily) Meyer, Christopher Leon Meyer, Melanie Monnot and Cassandra Meyer, great-grandchildren James Meyer and Andrew Walter Meyer, sisters-in-law Donna (Cliff) Kluber and Georgene (Fred) Laska, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A private family celebration of life will take place at a later date. You may leave your private condolences for Maxine's family at www.carlsonfh.com.

The Carlson Funeral Home (715-369-1414) is serving the Meyer family.
