The Hodags trailed 5-3 after 5 1/2 innings, but gave up eight in the sixth to fall via the 10-run rule.
Rhinelander Black scored a run in each of the first three innings and led 3-2 in the third, but the Hodags allowed two runs in the bottom of the inning as Lakeland took the lead for good.
Tyler Chariton singled in the first, stole two bases and came around on a wild pitch to give Rhinelander an early lead.
After Lakeland took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the first, Rhinelander tied it in the second as Seth Nofftz singled and got to third on a wild pitch before Mason Schmidt walked. The two then executed a double steal, allowing Nofftz to score. Barak Rappley drove in Dylan VanderBunt with a single to right to give Rhinelander the lead in the third.
The Hodags managed only five hits in the contest, including two from Rappley. Chariton, VanderBunt and Nofftz had the other hits.
Mason Schmidt started and went 5 1/3 innings for Rhinelander, allowing nine runs on five hits with four walks and three strikeouts. He was hindered by five defensive errors. Rappley finished out the game, allowing three hits and recording a strikeout.
Rhinelander Black fell to 3-2 with the loss, one game behind of Rhinelander Green and Crandon in the Senior League Standings and a half game behind Lakeland Black.
Rhinelander Green (4-1) played at Three Lakes Monday and is home to face Tomahawk on Thursday. Rhinelander Black is home to face Tomahawk tonight as part of a doubleheader. Rhinelander's Prep League team (4-0), which had a first-place battle at Crandon last Wednesday postponed due to thunderstorms, will host St. Germain tonight to kickoff the twinbill at Stafford Field.
