Erma lived in Rhinelander her whole life and graduated from Rhinelander High School in 1944. On May 16, 1953, Erma married Clarence "CJ" Petersen, also from Rhinelander. Erma started her career as a bookkeeper for Montgomery Ward and over the years was employed by the Oneida County Courthouse, and Mel's Trading Post.
Erma enjoyed all kinds of art, her favorite being rosemaling which is decorative Norwegian folk art painting. She continued to learn and teach her art well into her 90s. She was very involved with the Northern Decorative Artist group, where she served as treasurer for many years.
She was a member of the Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church. Family was important to Erma, and she loved and cherished them all.
Erma is survived by her daughters, Sherry (Rick) Amann, Rose (Don) Wich, and Patti Petersen, sons, Tom (Dawn) Petersen, Terry "Dice" (Pam) Petersen, and Tim (Sandra) Petersen, grandchildren, Becky, Eric, Kami, Jared (Bri), Travis, Tara, Misty, Jamie, Sam, and Connor, three great-grandchildren, other family and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clarence "CJ", two brothers, eight sisters, grandson, Timmy, and sons-in-law, Jon and Sam.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to Hospice and Milestone Senior Living for providing such loving care for mom in her final days.
Visitation for Erma will be held on Saturday, June 11, 2022, from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., with a memorial service following at 11 a.m., all at the Carlson Funeral Home with Chaplain John Uhlarik officiating.
