Alice Jane Schrameyer, 87, of Hazelhurst, passed away on July 19, 2022, at her home with her family by her side.

Alice was born in Racine on Oct. 1, 1934, to William H. and Alice J. (Kiley) Christoffersen. She was raised in Racine and was a 1952 graduate of Racine Park High School. She then attended U.W. Milwaukee receiving a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music.

Alice was united in marriage to Russell Simons in Milwaukee in September of 1952. The couple later were divorced. She married Clarence Schrameyer in 1989 in Brookfield. In the mid '90s Alice returned to college where she earned a teaching degree. She taught music in Milwaukee at middle schools until the age of 60. She and Clarence then moved to Hazelhurst where she continued teaching as a substitute teacher for the MHLT school district. She officially retired in 2004. Clarence passed away in 2002. Alice met Dean Wurtzel and they became a couple, enjoying each other's company. They enjoyed many fun activities especially traveling as snowbirds to Florida for 14 years.

Alice enjoyed spirited conversation about politics and considered herself to be an active member of the Democratic Party. She was a staunch advocate of blocking the Crandon Mine. For many years you could find letters from Alice in the editorial section of the Lakeland Times newspaper.

She was a very active member of St. Matthias Episcopal Church in Minocqua. She was also a member of WEAC.

Alice enjoyed gardening, reading, watercolor painting and colored pencil artistry. As a trained soloist she had sung soprano in operas. Alice also enjoyed attending plays in Spring Green and quilting, but most of all she loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them.

She will be missed by her children, Christopher Russell Simons of Philadelphia, Pa., Elizabeth Hoppe of Dousman, and Joan M. Pries of Hazelhurst, four grandchildren, Jane, Joseph, James, and Lance, four great-grandchildren, Autumn, Nathaniel, Brienne, and James, and by a brother, William (Alison Runyon) Christoffersen of Kentucky. Also surviving are nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Clarence Schrameyer in 2002, partner in life, Dean Wurtzel, and a son, David R. Simons.

The memorial service for Alice will be held on Monday, July 25, 2022, at 11 a.m. at St. Matthias Episcopal Church located at 403 E. Chicago Avenue, Minocqua, with Fr.Kenneth Guy officiating.

A reception will follow in the church hall.
