The Hodags had only three hits through six innings, but had four in the seventh, pushed three runs across and had the tying run on base with two out before the game ended with a Deven Feck strikeout.
Rhinelander treated the exhibition as a chance to feature all of the incoming freshmen on the team, giving the 15-year-olds on the squad the night off.
Three Lakes had only two hits in the game, but they were a pair of RBI singles that produced three runs. The majority of Three Lakes' offense came thanks to walks and seven Rhinelander errors.
Down 6-1 heading to the seventh, Ben Olson got the rally started with an infield hit. Declan Adams singled behind that, and Olson was declared safe at home after he was obstructed by the defense leaving second base. Caden Sieker added another hit before Hunter Bell grounded out to first, driving in Adams and cutting the lead to 6-3.
Two batters later, Evan Shoeder singled home Sieker to keep the rally alive and Cole Schmidt reached on an error to give Rhinelander runners on first and second before the game-ending strikeout.
Bell had Rhinelander's only other RBI as he scored Adams on a groundout in the first that tied the game at 1.
The Hodags used five different pitchers in the contest. Bell started and went two innings, striking out two. Feck struck out six over two innings, allowing a run on a hit. Myles Eagleson, Sieker and Olson all pitched one inning to finish out the contest.
A night earlier Rhinelander fell 7-4 in its final Northwoods Babe Ruth Senior League game of the season against league winner Crandon. Rhinelander led 4-3 in the fifth inning, before giving up four runs in the bottom of the game that proved to be the difference in the contest.
Tyler Chariton drove in Dylan VanderBunt and Barak Rappley in the fist inning. Feck walked and scored on an RBI hit by Zach Webster in the fourth. Mason Schmidt drove in Chariton with a hit in the fifth.
Pitching details were not provided.
Rhinelander Black ended the season with a 4-7 record in Senior League play.
