The emperor (Brianna Young) hears advice from Royal Scholar Rudy (Mandi Fielding) during the Missoula (Mont.) Children's Theater production of "The Emperor's New Clothes" Saturday, July 2 at Rhinelander High School's John and Dori Brown Performing Arts Center. Listening in are the Queen and King of Earth (Hailey Novak and Zeva Barrett), the Queen and King of Water (Ellyn Ender and Olivia Eades), the Queen and King of Fire (Abigail Raddatz and Sonja Kai Bureta) and the Queen and King of Air (Greta Pritchard and Jacob MacFarland). The emperor, influenced by his Money Council, tries to impress he new royal friends with a flashy wardrobe during his birthday celebration, only to alienate the people of his kingdom. They, with the help of the Royal Scholars, hatch a plan to make their ruler a special "birthday suit" that will surely bring him back down to earth during the hour-long comedy. With the exception of Fielding and director Joshua Hires, both of the Missoula Children's Theatre, the cast was comprised of local children who spent the week prior to the show auditioning for and rehearsing their roles. The event was presented by Oneida County 4-H Leaders' Association and UW-Extension Oneida County, with additional funding and/or support provided by the Rhinelander Community Foundation, the Rhinelander Woman's Club, ArtStart of Rhinelander, the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Northwoods, the School District of Rhinelander and Holiday Acres Resort.
