The Rhinelander Basketball Association hosted a seventh- and eighth-grade boys' basketball tournament Saturday, Jan. 22 at Rhinelander High School and James Williams Middle School.
Rhinelander's teams each placed second in their respective divisions. The Hodag eighth graders went 2-1 on the day, with wins over Lakeland (41-28) and Merrill (51-21) before falling to Prentice (62-51). The Hodag seventh graders went undefeated with wins over Antigo (33-31), Merrill (47-27) and Prentice (39-29).
Middle school gymnasts host meet
The Rhinelander Middle School gymnastics team conducted a three-team meet in the Hodag Dome Monday, Jan. 24. The Hodags took first as a team in Level A, and second in Level B.
Rhinelander had four of the top five finishers in the Level A all-around, led by a 1-2-3 sweep from Vivian Lamers, Neveah Anderson and Ella Miljevich. Karly Gillingham placed fifth. Lamers took first on balance beam, Anderson was the winner on vault and Anderson and Miljevich tied for first on the floor exercise.
In Level B, Claire Yunkers was first in the all-around, Annie Vander Galien placed fourth and Karlie Yunkers was fifth. Alexis Smith took an individual first-place for the Hodags on vault.
Middle school Nordic competes in Hodag Challenge
The Rhinelander middle school Nordic ski team took part in the Hodag Challenge at the Cedric A. Vig Outdoor Classroom Jan. 22 and 23. Middle schoolers were separated into two divisions, based on grade, for the meet. The Hodags tied for fourth in the boys' 5-6 division and were fifth in the girls' 7-8 division.
Olin Slette was sixth overall, individually in the boys' 7-8 division with Calvin Loomis placing 43rd. Austen Slette led the Hodags in the boys' 5-6 division in eighth over the two-day race. Douglas Hartmann was 21st and Samuel Loomis took 23rd.
Violet Biolo led the Hodags in the girls' 7-8 division in 16th overall followed by Lucy Eddy in 26th, Kayla Skubal in 17th, Mya Gillen in 31st and Kali Skubal in 34th. Noelle Mayo was 15th in the girls' 5-6 division.
