Chet was born in Evanston, Ill. on Aug. 11, 1937, to Darrel S. and Judith H. (Holmberg) Moore. At an early age, Chet's family moved to Tomah, and in 1955 he graduated from Tomah High School. Chet then attended UW-Eau Claire, graduating in 1958 with a degree in teaching/history. He was employed with US Steel in 1959 living in Bloomingdale, Ill. He transferred to a different division of US Steel working in Madison, and later in Marshall. In 1970, Chet and his family moved to Rhinelander where he purchased the Wilbert Vault Company using the name Wil-Mor Vault and Concrete. He operated this business from 1970 until 1990. He continued to work with his red truck and skid steer until 2015.
Chet was a member of Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church, the Friendly Poker Club, past member of the Oneida County Fair Board and past Chairman of the Crescent Township. He was an assistant coach with the Lakeland Union High School football and basketball teams. He enjoyed having his pilots license, bird watching and traveling to count birds, farm animals, being and outdoor enthusiast, pheasant hunting and in his younger years playing semi professional football for the Elmhurst Travelers and the Madison Mustangs.
He will be dearly missed by his loving wife Gloria; children: Sandy (Blair) Jackson of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, David (Sharon) Moore of Flagstaff, Arizona; stepchildren: Scott (Lisa) Kelley of Marco Island, Florida, Jeffrey (Heidi) Kelley of Rhinelander and Travis Kelley of Stoughton; four grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, one step-great-grandchild and his siblings; Roxanne (Nathan) Watkins, of Peoria, Ariz., Bonnie (Herb) Dhein of Sun City, Ariz. and by three brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law; Also surviving are nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Chet was preceded in death by his parents.
The visitation for Chet will take place on Monday, Jan. 31, 2022 at the Hildebrand Funeral Home from 9 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service. Immediately following the service there will be a procession to Northland Memorial Park Cemetery for the committal service.
