Anglers hit the ice for a good cause
NCO Club and Am Vets Post 724 mark 14th annual ice fishing event
Categories were walleye, northern, perch, crappie and bluegill. Prizes were awarded for the top four fish in length in each category. Beaver Dam tip ups, Buddy heaters, Lakewood tip up ice packs, ice pole caddies, jig poles, tip downs and Shappell sleds were among the prizes for which anglers were vying.
By far the longest fish was a northern, as anglers would expect. A 39.75-inch pike was wrestled through the ice by Waylon Domaika. Russell Loka managed to get an 18.5-inch walleye onto the ice as well. Perch and crappie in the nine to 12-inch mark came in as well as a 13.25-inch crappie, brought in by Tiffany Kahn.
Bluegills brought in were in the 8 to 9-inch range.
The tournament raises money for The Honor Flight and homeless veterans. The group has also given money to the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and other organizations that help veterans. The NCO Club and AM Vets Post 724 are currently working on creating a building where homeless veterans can get re-acclimated and reintegrated to life at home. Veterans would be able to stay for a year to 18 months while they readjust, find work, and become more comfortable.
