He was greatly loved by his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, numerous nieces and nephews, both here and in England, and will be dearly missed.
The son of Logan and Evangeline Huebner, Roger was born on March 21, 1935 in Rhinelander. He graduated from Rhinelander High School in 1953 where he excelled at math and baseball and was known as the "Lanky Moundsman." He was the last survivor among his nine siblings.
He enlisted in the Army in 1955 and served as a sharpshooter while stationed in Bamberg, Germany. On leave with a friend in England he met his future wife, Margaret Elise Barrow and they remained married for 62 years.
They settled in the Fox River Valley living in Geneva, Elburn, and St. Charles, Ill. They raised three children, Greg, Gail and Garry, who adored him. Later in life they spent summers in Barrow-in-Furness, England to spend time with relatives and wintered in New Port Richey, Florida. Eventually, they returned to St. Charles to spend more time with great-grandchildren.
In the early 1960s, he taught himself computer programming and worked for Allis-Chalmers Corporation as a software developer and retired from McDonald's Corporation in Oak Brook in 1996. However, he remained active as an information technology consultant with Allstate Corporation in Northbrook.
Roger was an intelligent, warm, generous, considerate, accepting person who loved his family unconditionally. He had a great sense of humor. He actively monitored "the markets" but also found "the ponies" to be equally worthy of his time.
He was a lifelong Green Bay Packers fan. He was a voracious reader and loved visiting libraries.
He favored history books and the works of Charles Dickens - finding relevance from these writings to contemporary challenges. He enjoyed genealogy and extensively researched his family tree back to Germany, as well as to England, Scotland, and Ireland.
He enjoyed traveling and took many European vacations with his loving family. He remained active until the end of his life greatly enjoying spending time with and caring for his great-grandchildren. He especially loved walking in St. Mary's Park in St. Charles.
Survivors include his wife Margaret, sons Greg (Sally) and Garry (J Wesley Mitchell), daughter, Gail; grandchildren, Kyle and Kelsey, great-grandchildren, Lukas, Aaron, Leeya, and Ian.
Internment will be at Northwoods National Cemetery in Harshaw. Memorial information will be forthcoming. Donations in his memory may be made to: St. Charles Public Library Foundation, St. Charles Parks Foundation, and Autism Society of America.
