Jerry moved to the Town of Enterprise as a youth. After his schooling he served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He served from Sept. 5, 1951 until his honorable discharge on Sept. 5, 1953. At this time, he returned to Enterprise and worked with his dad in the woods before going to work for the Rhinelander Paper Company. He was with the paper company for nearly 40 years retiring in 1992.
Jerry married the former Dorothy Schumacher on April 28, 1956 in Eldorado, Wis. God blessed them with over 65 years of marriage.
Jerry was nearly a lifelong member of the St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Enterprise. He was also a 50-year member of the American Legion. He enjoyed ice fishing, making homemade wine, gardening and helping as a caretaker for his family and friends around Pelican Lake.
Jerry is survived by his wife Dorothy, his daughter Barbara (Wayne) Steers, his sons Rodney Ellner, Gene (Marlene) Ellner, Tim Ellner and Jim (Dawn Arnold) Ellner, his eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, his brother John (Jane) Ellner, nieces, nephews, other family and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son Larry; his sisters Lorraine, Helen and Mary Jane and his brothers Earl, Edward Jr, Harold and Richard.
