Rhinelander Lions Fisheree gets anglers on the ice
In the northern pike category, Ed Saal won with a 31-inch fish. The largest walleye was a 19.875 incher brought in by Darren Budreau. Ethan Fourt won the crappie category with a 12.875 inch papermouth. The largest perch was 10.5 incher pulled through the ice by Adrian Reth. Jason Frankenberg won the bluegill category with a fish coming in at 9.25 inches.
Cash prizes were given for first through sixth place in the northern pike category, first through third in walleye and crappie and first and second place for perch and bluegill.
Kids aged 11 and under fished for free and were eligible for non-cash prizes in the same categories. Bryce Jecik's 20-inch northern was long enough to take first place in that category. In the walleye category, Taylynn Senoraske's fish of just over 15 inches took the top spot. Rhys Flick brought in the biggest crappie at 11.375 inches. Harper Lee's 9.5 inch perch took the top spot in that category and Lillie Andraschko's 9.375-inch bluegill took top honors in that category.
For the first time ever, this year's event was one-day only due to the Super Bowl being played the next day. The event has been a favorite for area ice anglers for 46 years. This year, over $2,500 in prize money was awarded to top finishers.
